Beauty Advice: Eyebrows + Moisturizing Foundation

Barb arrived at our spring Mother Of photo shoot saying she doesn’t wear a lot of makeup, and definitely wants to look like herself for her son’s wedding this summer.

Makeup artist Fatima Olive started with Barb’s eyebrows. “Eyebrows are really important—their job is to frame the eyes.” Fatima wanted to fill in the space between Barb’s lash line and brow. “She has a lot of space between the lash line and brow and our eye goes to the lightest area, so I wanted to make that less noticeable.” Fatima used an angled brush and gel product to brush the eyebrows up for a natural look. “If they’re too dark and heavy, it’s the opposite effect.” She applied a neutral matte cream shadow from lash line and a tubing mascara.

Fatima evened out Barb’s skin tone with a moisturizing foundation by Georgio Armani. “It hides imperfections, but doesn’t mask the skin,” the beauty guru explains. “The more matte you make the skin, the more you notice wrinkles…and streaks from tears.”

Fatima enhanced Barb’s lips with a bright lipstick—making the distinction that she wanted to go bright, not dark. She played around with Barb’s hair—alternating between a half-up and leaving it down, first more blown out, then more curly, for the different dresses she modeled. “Everyone thinks hair should be up for special occasion, but down can be more youthful.”
