About Mother Of

Mother Of is the go-to resource to help mothers of the bride or groom find a dress that lets them feel their best for one of life’s most significant milestones. We're here to simplify a shopping experience that can be intimidating and overwhelming, and boost the confidence of women who often feel overlooked by retailers. We independently curate the dresses we recommend. When users buy through our links, we may earn a commission.

The Mothers behind mother of

Meet Allison Kaplan

I’m a career journalist, a former style editor, the current editor in chief of Twin Cities Business, and mother of two teen boys. While I’m not at the mother of the groom stage yet, the lack of resources directed at moms (particularly ones who don’t identify as old ladies!) has long been on my mind. My mom and I co-host a weekly radio show called Shop Girls where we talk about fashion and retail from our very different generational points of view. Every single week for more than a decade now, women call in with the same dilemma: their daughter or son just got engaged and they don’t know where to find a mother of the bride or mother of the groom dress for the wedding. Week after week, we refer these callers to specialty boutiques or trusted brands; we assure them it’s ok to have a little fun and wear what works for them. But the fact that the calls keep coming convinced me that women “of a certain age” need a resource of their own—not another bridal site where mothers are treated as a footnote. I wanted to create a safe zone to commiserate about flabby arms, to explore the miracles of a flutter sleeve. The right clothes have the power to make us feel confident, and you deserve to look and feel your very best on your child’s big day. After all, you’re the mom! So let’s shift the narrative. I’m so glad you’re here. Xx - Ali

Meet Betsey Kershaw

I'm a social media professional managing a Minneapolis based agency. I love fashion and encouraging women to be themselves when it comes to finding their personal style. As a "woman of a certain age" I have to get really creative in how I dress to feel great and stay true to who I am. I've been married for 31 years and missed out on the mother of the bride experience because to my mother's shock — I eloped in New York City after only 6 months of dating my now husband! We have two daughters in their twenties and I am counting the days until I get to be a MOB because I know just where to go to find the perfect dress! Xx - Betsey
