What to Wear to Officiate a Summer Wedding

What to Wear to Officiate a Summer Wedding

Being asked to officiate the wedding of a loved one is an honor...and a fashion conundrum. Fatima gravitates to color and pattern, but felt like she should tone it down to officiate her niece's wedding. Or should she? They asked her for a reason, after all—and Fatima's warm and bubbly energy was no doubt part of it. The bride and groom made no demands about color or style, leaving Fatima to decide. The wedding is scheduled to take place outdoors on a July afternoon. That means hot sun...on top of potential performance nerves. Says Fatima, "I don't want to wear anything I might sweat through!"

Good thing she looks fabulous in just about everything—without spending a lot.  Here are the three dresses she's considering. Which should she wear?

1. House of Harlow One Shoulder Pleated Dress

Great color, flattering lines. The gathered pleating creates amazing movement. No longer in stores, this House of Harlow one shoulder pleated dress pops up on Poshmark and ebay frequently. So search it out! A.L.C. makes a very similar (more expensive style. Called the "Delfine" dress, Nordstrom currently has it in gold and yellow for $695; we found it at Saks Fifth Avenue in pale yellow "canary" on sale for $267.75.

 2. Zara Cut Out Midi Dress

Deal of the Barbie summer: this dress is currently selling at Zara for $69.90! Shoulder pads give the slight capped sleeves a bit of lift. The round neck balances the side cut outs and slit.

3. Zac Posen for Target

Always shop your closet! This is an oldie but a still goodie from Zac Posen for Target, circa 2010! (We found it on Poshmark for $24.) It's the one that Fatima says feels most like her (probably because she's already worn it), but the print gives her pause for officiant duties.
Will it be 1, 2, or 3? Drop us a comment, and we'll report back after the wedding!
