Is This Dress Right for Mother of the Bride?

A mother of the bride asks if this Alexander by Daymor one-shoulder mermaid gown in champagne and gold is appropriate for her daughter's wedding. But before you go judging her choice of a color similar to the wedding dress, there's one key fact: the bride actually selected this dress for her mom!

That's all we needed to know to give it a thumbs up—there's something beautiful, inside and out, about brides who want their mom to join them in ivory or champagne.

But the mom was clearly still uncomfortable, feeling the gown was too bridal. And she needs to feel comfortable. So here are a few more solidly gold options that might be good for a compromise. What do you think?

One Shoulder Metallic Ball Gown

Classic A-line ball gown with all the right accents to make you feel modern and all around fabulous from the shoulder ruffle to the defined waist, thigh high slit and that metallic brocade fabric. Sizes 0 to 20. $598. Buy from Mac Duggal.

Sequined Halter Neck Gown

Glam, and classy. Halter style, bare back, belted for definition. Sizes 0 to 18. $398. Buy from Mac Duggal.

Sleeveless Asymmetrical Metallic Gown

Get the gold vibe, but with a black under tone to separate it from a wedding dress. We love this sleek silhouette with its interesting neckline, flattering ruched bodice, and cool-but-classy side slit. Sizes 0 to 20. $199. Buy from Adrianna Papell.

Long Sleeve Beaded Column Gown

This long sleeve column with a semi-sheer bodice, diagonal beading and delicate waist is perfectly modern and so chic. Sizes 2 to 18. $598. Buy from Mac Duggal.
