Mother of: Sidney
Venue: La Cour Venue in McKinney, Texas
Vibe: Outdoor formal
Dress: Feriani Couture from Terry Costa

Something flowy and floral is what Kim initially pictured herself wearing for her daughter Sidney spring wedding in Texas. Pastel is what the bride wanted her mom, and the mother of the groom  in. Both adjusted their vision.

“She came around to realize that A, we don’t look good in pastels, and B, we should go with what makes us feel good,” says mother of the bride Kim.

Shopping for a spring wedding in December proved to be tough, says Kim, who made the rounds of Dallas department stores. “There wasn’t much inventory left right before Christmas and it was mostly winter colors.”

Special occasion dress shop Terry Costa to the rescue: “They were very helpful with style and color and brought me lots of dresses to try on,” Kim says. She left the shop feeling good about her options, and brought her husband back to the store for the final selection. He panned them all! But a sales associate jumped in, remembering one other dress Kim had tried on, a one shoulder side ruffle gown in magenta with hot pink metallic thread.

“He loved it from the start,” Kim says. She paired it with Naturalizer Vera heels in a pink metallic and Olive and Piper earrings.

Mother of the groom did not end up in pastels either—Patricia went with navy jacquard after Kim chose magenta.

The moms had only met once pre-engagement. But Kim and Sidney invited Pat to join them to tour venues and shop for the wedding gown. “We had the opportunity to get to know each other over those days.” After that, the two went back and forth on many details. Pat would text photos of the many dresses she tried on before selecting the one. Kim asked her opinion on everything from food, cake, and florals to napkin color. “I appreciated Pat’s opinions<’ Kim says. “She has a huge family and has been to many more weddings than I have. That was a huge help!”

One of Kim’s favorite memories is the whole family out on the dance floor together. “Seeing Mike and Sidney have so much fun!” Sidney also dedicated her bouquet to her mom. “It was very special,” Kim says.

Kim's advice to other mothers of might sound cliche, she says, but only because it’s so true: “enjoy the day and relax—it goes by so fast!”
