Mother of: Michael
Venue: La Cour Venue in McKinney, Texas
Vibe: Southern elegance
Dress: Teri Jon
Patricia envisioned herself in pink at her son Michael's wedding. It was an outdoor spring wedding in Texas. “I wanted something bright,” she says.

This mother of the groom ordered at least 25 gowns to her home in Kansas City. She and mother of the bride Kim, who lives in Dallas, texted dress photos back and forth. They had met just once when Michael and Sidney were dating, and again when Sidney went dress shopping. “I really valued her opinion and I feel we genuinely wanted each other to look and feel our best on our children’s wedding day," says Patricia, who insisted the MOB choose her gown first.
When Kim selected a magenta gown, Patricia broadened her search, and landed on a navy jacquard off-the-shoulder Teri Jon gown.

“I did not consider navy originally, but this gown was so elegant, which is what I was going for,” Patricia says. “It had an organza overlay with some metallic, and it photographed beautifully next to the black tuxes and periwinkle bridesmaid dresses.”

The navy gown was meant to be a backup—ordered less than a month before the wedding when Patricia says she sensed alterations on the dress she thought she would wear were “going sideways.” She was able to get alterations made on the “backup” dress with just 10 days to spare before the wedding. “I felt amazing in it!”
Moral of the story: “Try on lots of gowns! Your gown may end up being a style or color you’ve never considered.”
