Julie W.: Investing in Elegance

Julie W.: Investing in Elegance

Mother of: Sarah
Venue: Olympia Fields Country Club, suburban Chicago
Vibe: Black Tie
Dress: Carolina Herrera ball gown skirt and blouse set

With the bridesmaids in pink and the groomsmen in classic black tuxedos, mother of the bride Julie punctuated the party in a blue and white floral ball gown skirt and blouse.

“I wanted something that would speak to Sarah’s fun personality and still be elegant at the same time,” says Julie. “It was the perfect combination of Jackie O meets Princess Diana—my two favorite style icons.” If the print evokes hints of the loveliest centerpiece, that’s no accident—it was inspired by vintage porcelain, according to the brand.

Julie fell in love with the design at first sight online, but continued to shop around for a couple of months because, well, “I was a big investment!” But worth it, Julie says. “I will wear this Carolina Herrera set for years (you can still find it in select sizes). I’ll pair the blouse with beautiful white pants and I’m thinking the ball skirt would look stunning with a simple, elevated white t-shirt and pearls.”

The August wedding took place at the Olympia Fields Country Club in suburban Chicago. Sarah and groom Ryan “Share a love of travel, food, dining, and golf,” says Julie, who planned every aspect of the event with her daughter. “We had a blast together—she had a vision and I helped execute.”

Of course, don’t expect perfection, Julie advises other families with a wedding on the horizon. “Wedding days are never really ‘perfect.’ Sarah and Ryan enjoyed every moment and didn’t allow minor problems or details to derail their day. When you see the joining of two hearts come together perfectly—that’s a moment to be celebrated.”
