Thank you, Katie Couric, for reminding us to shop our closets; and to Meghan McCain for inspiring a Sharon Stone moment in a white button down with a ballgown skirt. The stars showed their influence on the red carpet at the Time100 Gala this week. Here are some of our favorite looks:
Katie Couric in Carmen Marc Valvo
Proving that good style is timeless, and so is black and gold, the media personality shopped her closet and pulled out a dress by one of her favorite designers, Carmen Marc Valvo. "It's from 10 years ago!" she wrote on Instagram.
Angela Bassett in Gaurav Gupta
Black and gold again for the win! Angela Basseett went for a cool, modern vibe in a contoured pant suit that Indian couturier Gaurav Gupta showed at Paris Haute Couture Week.
Meghan McCain in Carolina Herrera
TV personality Meghan McCain dressed up for the first time since having a baby to accompany her mom, Cindy McCain as one of the #Time100 for her work as head of the World Food Program. Meghan paired a Lafayette 148 New York white button down with a bright red ballgown skirt by Carolina Herrera. She's right on the special occasion shirtdress trend.
Lea Michele in Vintage Thierry Mugler
Excuse us while we pick our jaws up off the floor. Lea Michele stunned in a 199 Thierry Mugler gown that looked like it was made for her. Ok, so maybe most of us couldn't pull off that plunging halter style bodice, but this is a great reminder that a pleated and voluminous skirt always looks elegant, and that shopping vintage opens a world of possibilities.
Lindsey Vonn in Antonio Grimaldi Couture
Another classic: you can't go wrong in red. We love the angled bodice of this strapless gown on the Olympic skier. And if you have the chance to wear a train of tiered ruffles, take it! Note how Lindsey let the dress speak for itself and kept accessories to a minimum, just small earrings and a bracelet.
Padma Lakshmi in Marchesa
Just, wow. We love the soft blue-gray hue, the cascade of ruffles. That leg speaks for itself.
