With a lakeside resort as the wedding backdrop, bride Madisen encouraged her mom, Susy, to wear a dress that was “fun, happy, and unique; dramatic, yet effortless.”
Potentially a tall order, but very early in the search, Madisen actually spotted the dress she and her mom kept coming back to: a halter style A-line gown in sky blue, dotted with white daisies. “It doesn’t get much better than hand embroidered daisies on taffeta,” says Susy. “And since Madisen’s wedding dress had appliqué, the embellishment was such a fitting detail.”
This mother daughter also loved the brand synergy: Susy’s dress is by Bernadette, a mother-daughter designed collection out of Belgium. Already a brand fan, Madisen followed Bernadette on Instagram and spotted a dress she thought would be perfect for her mom in their Spring/Summer 2024 collection. They tracked it down at Palm Beach, Florida boutique Marissa Collections and ordered it on the spot.
“We loved that it was from a mother-daughter brand and wasn’t your traditional MOB gown,” Susy says. “It was everything we had imagined and hoped for me to wear on the day.”
She accessorized with daisy drop earrings by Loren Hope and a summery straw clutch by Mar Y Sol.
Madisen and her groom, Dane, rented out the Alpine Resort, a charming Door County destination with a waterfront lawn that offers panoramic views of Lake Michigan. Most of their guests stayed in cottages on site.
Susy says the entire wedding felt like a celebration of summer, with a color palette that included shades of pink, green, orange and yellow. One of the most special details was custom tablecloths that wove in all of the colors and flowers of the day in watercolor. Susy and Madisen sourced the special fabric from one of the bride’s favorite textile designers Elaina Fagan Darden. They found a seamstress to turn the fabric into tablecloths for the head table, cake table and hightop tables for the cocktail hour.
Says Susy, “It was a beautiful, colorful fabric that added so much to the whole reception and captured Madisen’s personal style perfectly.”
