Mary Anne G.: Something Borrowed, and Blue

Mary Anne G.: Something Borrowed, and Blue

Mother Of: John
Venue: Underwood Estates, Chatham, Mass
Vibe: Cape Cod Classic
Dress: Kay Unger

The dress hung in Mary Anne’s closet for a year—tags still on it. The A-line gown was given to Mary Anne by a friend after her son’s wedding was rescheduled and the return date on the dress had already passed. Mary Anne planned to wear it to a formal gathering, but ended up not attending, so there it sat. And then her son John proposed to Emily.

When they decided to get married on Cape Cod—a waterfront tented clambake at the Underwood Estates—Mary Anne knew there was no need to go shopping. The perfectly preppy-classic summer dress was already in her closet: sleeveless, belted, with a white and navy gingham print. (The Kay Unger dress is no longer available new, but try searching Poshmark.)

“The dress felt like it was custom made for me,” Mary Anne says. “The morning of the wedding, I cut the tags off, gave it a light steam, and I was set.”

Continuing the theme, a friend loans her earrings and she found her pearl bracelets at a consignment shop for $12.

Borrowed, blue, and a bargain too.
