Lise Godvin.: Summer on Nantucket

Lise Godvin.: Summer on Nantucket

Mother of: Hannah
Venue: First Congregational Church and Nantucket Yacht Club
Vibe: Summer formal
Dress: Gramercy Atelier

Within minutes of Hannah and Henry getting engaged, they knew where the wedding would take place. “It had to be Nantucket,” says mother of the bride Lise. Hannah grew up spending summers on the island off Cape Cod, Massachusetts, as did her mom and grandparents before her.

A June wedding on the charming island known for its cobblestone streets, gray shingle houses, and steeple churches calls for colorful spins on the classics. Lise wore a series of bright, patterned Teri Jon dresses for the events leading up to the wedding—showers, opening night of the destination wedding weekend, rehearsal dinner. “When I find something I like, I stick with it,” she says.

But for the wedding itself, she went custom. “We had 250 people at the wedding. I worried that if I wore something off the rack, someone else might be in my dress.”

As though on cue after the proposal, Instagram turned Lise’s feed into a scroll of wedding resources and Lise came across Gramercy Atelier, Maria Pucci’s bespoke brand specializing in made-to-measure formal wear—especially for mother of the bride and groom. Gramercy Atelier is located in New York City, but is also equipped to do virtual consults, measurements, and fittings.

“I had seen a short sleeve blue dress that I liked, so I asked Maria if she could do something like that.” But in pink, which was Hannah’s wedding color. “I just didn’t want to be too pink,” Lise says. She told Pucci the same, and the result was a pale peachy-pink short sleeve belted A-line with soft pink and red flowers scattered throughout the pleated ballgown skirt. Simple. Stunning. It was exactly as she’s wanted.

Gramercy also made her matching wrap, which was a nice layer to have during photos by the lighthouse on an unseasonably cool June day. It rained on Hannah and Henry’s wedding day. Not everything went exactly as planned.

“The day itself goes by in such a blur,” Lise says. “Getting all the outfits together was really fun—it’s a time to imagine and look forward. I loved all of it. It’s just a really fun chapter.”
