Talk about being on top of the world: Katy’s son Alex married Anna on the 50th floor of a downtown Philadelphia skyscraper with 360-degree views of the city. Given the elegant, big-city setting, the invitation called for black tie optional.
The bride told Katy she could wear anything, but given that the mother of the bride and bridesmaids were wearing black, she steered her search that direction. Katy tried department stores, she shopped online, but she hit the jackpot at The Perfect Dress in Sarasota, Fla.
On top of the stack of black dresses Katy had selected to try, the salesperson at The Perfect Dress suggested a sleeveless gown with a beaded lace layer over a nude lining. The dress came with a wrap for extra coverage when she wanted it.
“I wouldn’t have thought it was for me,” says Katy, “But once I put it on, I knew it was the one. What sold me was the uniqueness of the nude underlay topped with two layers of beaded lace.”
She FaceTimed her soon-to-be daughter-in-law for final approval.
Because the dress had so much going on, Katy kept accessories to a minimum: a delicate gold and diamond heart necklace, gold hoop earrings, and black sandals.
“There were so many highlights to the day,” Katy recalls. “But the best was watching my son look at his bride as they exchanged their personalized vows. The look on his face was filled with such love, adoration, and joy. My heart was overflowing.”
