Jackie R. : This Dress Has Legs

Mother of: Pat
Wedding locale:Ā The Neu Neu in Minneapolis
Vibe: Urban eclectic
Jumpsuit: Kay Unger

Jackie didn’t have a specific dress in mind for her son Pat’s wedding to his longtime girlfriend Anna so much as she had a dress shopping strategy. ā€œI was determined to find and support a local shop in St. Paul, Minn.,ā€ she says. But she didn’t find anything that excited her.

ā€œI was looking for something unique—not matronly or glitzy. Honestly, I was really struggling to find the perfect dress.ā€

That’s when Jackie’s sisters stepped in and swept this mother of the groom off to Nordstrom where an unexpected pattern caught her eye: midnight blue flower on stem against a frosty rose background. Not a color palette Jackie says she’s typically drawn to, but it spoke to her. Except this wasn’t a dress. It was a Kay Unger cropped wide leg jumpsuit. Nothing about this was what Jackie thought she was looking for, and yet, she loved it.

ā€œTo me, it was a style reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn, whom I love.ā€

The jumpsuit fit. ā€œI felt it was flattering on me. I really liked the style and the color combination.ā€

Jackie’s sisters gave her look a big thumbs up. The bride, Anna, ā€œwas very chill about my dress choice,ā€ Jackie adds.Ā

The wedding took place in a studio-like setting inside an historic building with exposed brick walls, high ceilings and big factory-type windows. It had a ā€œhipster feel,ā€ Jackie says. ā€œThe vibe was welcoming, warm, whimsical, and full of color.ā€

Of course that includes Jackie herself, who felt ā€œpretty and very comfortableā€ in her floral jumpsuit. ā€œBest of all," she says, "it turned out to be great for dancing!ā€
