Jackie R. : This Dress Has Legs

Mother of: Pat
Wedding locale: The Neu Neu in Minneapolis
Vibe: Urban eclectic
Jumpsuit: Kay Unger

Jackie didn’t have a specific dress in mind for her son Pat’s wedding to his longtime girlfriend Anna so much as she had a dress shopping strategy. “I was determined to find and support a local shop in St. Paul, Minn.,” she says. But she didn’t find anything that excited her.

“I was looking for something unique—not matronly or glitzy. Honestly, I was really struggling to find the perfect dress.”

That’s when Jackie’s sisters stepped in and swept this mother of the groom off to Nordstrom where an unexpected pattern caught her eye: midnight blue flower on stem against a frosty rose background. Not a color palette Jackie says she’s typically drawn to, but it spoke to her. Except this wasn’t a dress. It was a Kay Unger cropped wide leg jumpsuit. Nothing about this was what Jackie thought she was looking for, and yet, she loved it.

“To me, it was a style reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn, whom I love.”

The jumpsuit fit. “I felt it was flattering on me. I really liked the style and the color combination.”

Jackie’s sisters gave her look a big thumbs up. The bride, Anna, “was very chill about my dress choice,” Jackie adds.

The wedding took place in a studio-like setting inside an historic building with exposed brick walls, high ceilings and big factory-type windows. It had a “hipster feel,” Jackie says. “The vibe was welcoming, warm, whimsical, and full of color.”

Of course that includes Jackie herself, who felt “pretty and very comfortable” in her floral jumpsuit. “Best of all," she says, "it turned out to be great for dancing!”
