Diane B.: Of Love and Lobster Rolls

Diane B.: Of Love and Lobster Rolls

Mother of: Madeleine
Venue: Family cabin on Mount Desert Island, Maine
Vibe: Upscale outdoors
Dress: David’s Bridal

Madeleine and Tyler found each other in Minnesota through a dating app. Sharing a love of the outdoors, they got engaged in Montana, at Glacier National Park on the shores of beautiful Lake McDonald. And continuing the theme of ā€œM,ā€ they were married in Maine, at the summer cabin of Madeleine’s grandparents in the small village of Somesville on Mount Desert Island.Ā

Madeleine suggested that her mom, Diane, wear a color that would fit the woodsy setting. She started by looking at green tones, but gravitated to a soft lilac. ā€œI loved the color, even though it was not what I’d been thinking of when I started shopping.ā€ Turned out, she was in sync with the mother of the groom, who chose a deeper purple for her dress. ā€œWe didn’t know until we saw each other for pictures!ā€Ā

Beyond color, Diane wanted a dress that would be comfortable and supportive. She didn’t want to stand outside on an August day in a dress that felt heavy and restrictive. ā€œI get warm just thinking about it,ā€ she jokes.

She struck out at a number of better department stores before deciding on a whim to try David’s Bridal.ā€I knew I’d found it when I spied it on the rack—the color, the off the shoulder style. I’m fairly certain the dress is usually considered a bridesmaid’s dress, but that didn’t matter to me. I loved everything about it.ā€Ā

Around 40 friends and family members traveled to Maine for the wedding. They ate lobster rolls in a tent illuminated by twinkly lights. They danced under pine trees and capped the picture-perfect day with a fire pit gathering under the stars. And never once did Diane worry about needing to adjust her dress. ā€œIt had great support and flow where I needed it.ā€Ā
