Maddie and Scott grew up a block away from each other, one year apart. They attended the same elementary, middle and high schools, but somehow, they didn’t meet until after college, while out with friends at a bar. They’ve been together ever since and were married in September on the picturesque Ashery Lane Farm. Located just west of the Twin Cities, it's long been a destination for apple picking. In recent years, it's become a popular backdrop for weddings, since the owners built a new barn on the grounds that exudes country luxury, with a large stone fireplace and ornate chandeliers dangling from the soaring pale wood beam ceilings.
The couple wanted the wedding party and guests in semi formal attire—the bridesmaids wore a perfectly autumnal copper hue. Mother of the bride Denise went shopping with one goal in mind: “I wanted something fun and flowy.”
She ordered dozens of dresses from Macy’s, Lulus, and Nordstrom and settled on a wine colored off-the-shoulder dress…until she came across a navy and gold metallic floral one-shoulder gown that was exactly the fun and flowy combo she wanted. “I just loved it—it was so comfortable and flattering and different,” she says. The pattern and shimmer of Denise's dress made it the perfect complement to the rest of the wedding party in solid colors.
Denise paired her gown with gold platform sandals by Aerosoles. “Best shoes I have ever worn,” she gushes. “I wore them for 11.5 hours and did not have a blister, and my feet didn’t hurt.”
When you’ve tried and dismissed dozens of painful pairs, you really appreciate one that works, Denise says. “I ordered them in black, too.”
