Less than a year after Delores’ son’s wedding, her daughter, Marianna, got engaged in the summer of 2019. Marianna met Clint at church in 2017 after moving to Hendersonville, in the mountains of North Carolina, to work as a pharmacist. The couple had dated for a year and a half when Clint asked Marianna to marry him, at the pinnacle of a sunset hike overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. Fourteen months later, they married at Caitlyn Farms, a rustic-but-elegant event venue on a working farm in nearby Mill Spring. The same Blue Ridge Mountains that stood behind them as they got engaged served as the backdrop for their ceremony.
Leading up to her daughter's wedding, Delores struggled to find a dress that she liked as much as the black cocktail-style dress she’d worn for her son’s.
“My size wasn’t really where I wanted it, and I wasn’t really sure how they make things for plus-size people,” she says. Confounding her struggles was the fact that Covid was in full swing, which prevented in-store shopping.
With a stack of dresses she’d ordered online, Delores headed to the alterations’ shop of her friend, Chong Simon. “She’s very honest,” Delores says, with a laugh. “So I trust her.” Delores tried on all the dresses for Chong. When she got to the gown by Adrianna Papell—a light gray, floor-length v-neck with sequin detailing and flutter sleeves, Chong proclaimed, “No more, no more. This one is it!”
