Mother Of: Libby
Venue: Castell de Sant Marçal in Barcelona
Vibe: Elegant and colorful
Dress: Akris
Bucking the typical go-tos of navy and neutrals, Ann wore bright red for her daughter’s Spanish wedding. The bride encouraged it. “Libby and I agreed that I should wear a bright and bold color so that my dress would stand up to the large venue and old Spanish stone structures.”
The wedding took place in Barcelona at the thousand-year-old Eglésia San Vincenc de Sarria Catholic Church with the reception at the picturesque Castillo de Sant Marçal, just outside of the city. It was the culmination of an international romance that started at Indiana University where Pablo was studying abroad. Libby had just returned from her own study abroad program in Seville, Spain when she met the handsome Spaniard on campus. They dated long distance for a couple of years after graduating. Five years ago, Libby moved to Barcelona. Ann says the city suits them.
They set a June, 2023 wedding date, and many American relatives and friends turned it into their summer getaway.
“Libby and Pablo are very fun-loving and casual people, so they wanted guests to wear dressy but comfortable clothing,” Ann says. “I searched for a dress that was unusual, simple, colorful, and suitable for hot weather.”
She spotted the red belted crepe Akris gown with an understated front ruffle online, but knew it was meant to be when she tried it on at the Akris store in Miami Beach. Something about ruffles in red—”I felt it had a glamorous Spanish flair.”
She kept her accessories simple: gold platform heels and a thick gold bangle. “Less is more!” Ann says. “I think women prefer clean, classic lines, in beautiful colors and fabrics.”
